Naturopathy in European Traditional Medicine (ETM) is a holistic approach to health based on natural methods and remedies known to our ancestors since the time of Hippocrates — more than 400 years before Christ.
Naturopathy is rooted in an understanding of the laws of nature and in the philosophy famously expressed by Hippocrates as Primum Non Nocere — “First, do no harm.”
Each consultation begins with a comprehensive review of the patient’s health history, known as the anamnesis. This is complemented by an observation of the eyes through iridology, an examination of the tongue, pulse assessment, and any other observations that may help provide a more complete understanding of the individual’s overall profile.
The consultation then leads to personalised recommendations in Phytotherapy — including fresh or dried medicinal plants, mother tinctures, glycerine macerates, vegetable oils, essential oils, spagyric remedies and Bach Flower Remedies — together with nutritional guidance, including vitamins, trace elements, minerals, mineral salts and superfoods, as well as personalised lifestyle advice.
During the consultation, a naturopathic treatment is generally provided to support the body and mind in restoring greater balance and harmony.
Manual therapies can help support the body’s natural functions by working on the skin and muscles, helping to relieve pain and inflammation, stimulating key points and areas associated with specific organs, improving posture, and supporting the digestive and immune systems, sleep, as well as the lymphatic and cardiovascular systems.
Manual therapies can also have an influence on the nervous, endocrine and emotional systems. Depending on individual needs, these may include massage, detoxification techniques, reflexology, acupuncture applied to specific points, Baunscheidt therapy (a form of localised acupuncture), auriculotherapy (acupuncture applied to the ears), sympathicotherapy (endonasal stimulation), spinal and osteo-articular realignment, cupping therapy, hirudotherapy using medicinal leeches, and many other complementary approaches.
